Bielsk Podlaski
Akcent
One of the defining acts of the uniquely Polish genre disco polo. Led by Zenon Martyniuk, Akcent has been hugely popular since the 1990s.

A long-running rock band blending punk, alternative, and social commentary. Frontman Muniek Staszczyk’s lyrics often reflect on everyday Polish life.
Dąbrowa Górnicza
Dawid Podsiadło
One of Poland’s biggest contemporary pop artists. After winning a talent show, he built a career on carefully crafted albums that appeal beyond the mainstream.
Gdańsk
Czerwone Gitary
Often compared to The Beatles, this 1960s band helped define Polish pop-rock (known as “big beat”, to distinguish it from Western rock). Czerwone Gitary formed in Gdańsk but the members came from different parts of Poland.

Katowice
Kaliber 44
Pioneers of Polish hip-hop. Mixing rap with surreal elements, Kaliber 44 named their early creations “psycho rap”.

Miuosh
A rapper and producer who bridges hip-hop with orchestral and alternative projects. Katowice is a big part of his identity and work.
Krzysztof Krawczyk
A hugely popular singer with a deep, distinctive voice, spanning pop, soul, and country influences. Though associated with many places, he had strong ties to Silesia during parts of his life.
Kraków
Maanam
Fronted by the iconic Kora, Maanam defined Polish rock in the 1980s. Though also associated with Warsaw, the band’s roots and early identity are closely linked to Kraków.

Czesław Niemen

Szczecin
Hey and Nosowska
Hey was one of Poland’s leading alternative, grunge-inspired rock bands of the 1990s. Since then, the singer Kasia Nosowska has grown into a major solo artist and cultural voice.

As you can imagine, I had a hard time picking just a few artists from each city. I tried to focus on the most established names instead of my own favourites, but I’m sure my personal taste shines through.
