It’s impossible not to like Marek Grechuta (right? ☺️). In one of his most famous songs, you’ll learn how to say the four seasons in Polish.

The song is called “Wiosna, ach to ty” (Spring, oh it’s you), but listen carefully and you’ll hear the other seasons too:

Lato – summer
Jesień – autumn
Zima – winter

If you want to explore the rest of the lyrics, I found this exercise online from the school Polski na wynos (just be aware you might find it challenging if you’re a new learner of Polish!).

About Marek Grechuta

Marek Grechuta (1945-2006) grew up in Zamość, but moved to Kraków to study architecture before pivoting to music and art. His compositions are so well constructed, it seems he approached music with the mind of an architect ☺️

In Kraków he became one of the leading figures of the genre known as “poezja śpiewana” (“sung poetry” in English), meaning he often based his lyrics on poetry.

In 2003, he recorded the single “Kraków” with the well-known Polish indie rockers Myslovitz.

If you ever go to Kraków, you can visit Marek Grechuta’s grave at the cemetery Rakowicki.
