Lao Che’s track “Wojenka” has a lot to say about the nature of war. But it can also help us learn how to count to 10 in Polish.
Raz i dwa, raz i dwa (1 and 2)
Trzy i cztery, trzy i cztery (3 and 4)
Pięć i sześć, pięć i sześć (5 and 6)
Siedem, osiem, siedem, osiem (7 and 8)
Dziewięć, dziesięć, dziewięć, dziesięć (9 and 10)
Listen to ‘Wojenka’
You’ll find it in my playlists on Spotify and YouTube.
About the band
Lao Che have been around for ages and have released heaps of records. They’re known for their eclectic style that spans everything from rock and punk to folk and electronica.
Fun fact: The band name Lao Che is inspired by a villain in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

“Raz” is a nifty little word. If you’re brand new to Polish, you need to know that “raz” is in fact “once”. Usually, “one” is “jeden”, but “raz” is often used when counting in a musical context.
- “Raz w roku” means “Once a year”
- “Raz w tygodniu” means “Once a week”
- “Od razu” means “At once, immediately”
- “Raz, dwa!” can be used if you’re impatiently waiting for someone and want them to hurry up.
Other Polish songs with numbers
- Granda by Brodka (count to five, super quickly!)
- Rachuj do pięcu by Abradab (count to five, regular speed)
- 12 groszy by Kazik (learn how to say 12 – it’s repeated throughout the track)
